It's been relatively quiet in the Habari world over the Christmas period but here's a quick round-up to fill in the lull between Christmas and New Year.
HabariBar
Habari is a distributed project and people from all four corners of the globe will be converging on Columbus, Ohio next year for HabariBar so save up and sign up.
Hopefully, HabariBar will be well attended and as successful as last years HabariCon.
Plugins
Another plugin rolls off the conveyor belt over at Soulless Software - Lilliputian automatically shortens URL's used in posts which can be configured to use external services.
Although I have occasionally used the Firefox plugin, ScribeFire, I much prefer the plain, unadulterated beauty of the blank canvas of the Habari article editor. However, many bloggers prefer desktop blogging tools, in particular Windows Live Writer which is widely used.
Microsoft recently released an update to Live Writer and I tried to evaluate the software but was unable to get Live Writer to work with Habari 0.6 alpha either using either the AtomPub or MetaWebLog protocols although I subsequently noticed, while investigating and resolving Marjolein's problems with ScribeFire, Rick C made a couple of recent fixes to the MetaWebLog plugin that may help with WLW.
I modified the existing Twitter and Twitter silo plugins (thanks Christian and Sean) to work with identi.ca which was trivial as identi.ca helpfully implemented the Twitter API so you simply have to change the API endpoints.
Habari sphere
Andrew Rickmann (author of the excellent 'Fun with Habari' blog) points out that Ali B's Charcoal theme is now available for WordPress which must represent some sort of bizarre tipping point for Habari.
Andrew also promises some exciting and top secret developments for Habari in 2009.
Continuing the theme of unbearable suspense, Matt Harwood also commits to use Habari when he overhauls his blog in 2009.
Michael C. Harris sits down with a glass of (mulled) wine and mulls over his first year using Habari.
Finally, thanks to Ali B and Chris J Davis who helped me get Viewzi up and running on this blog.
